Friday 19 September & Saturday 20 September 2008 - 10th Anniversary Year!!
Welcome, we would like to send this very special invitation to all Shadows fans worldwide to join us once again this year for our 10th Pre-Shadowmania Social Event.
The event is organised for all fans travelling to The Lakeside to compliment Bruce Welch's Saturday Shadowmania. It is also a great opportunity for everyone to socialise and be able to enjoy time in a relaxed setting celebrating lots of Shadow's music. It will once again be held in the Peninsula Suite, a very comfortable function room overlooking the lake of The Lakeside Hotel, where there is table seating and full bar facilities until late.
The Function Room will be available from midday on the Friday for all the guests to be welcomed as they arrive, relax and introduce themselves to friends. The room will be closed at approximately 4.30pm to be prepared for the evening party night. The main party-style evening will then commence at 6.30pm and the entertainment is provided by guests from the audience and will continue until approximately 1.00am. A full finger-style buffet will be served at approximately 7.30pm all inclusive of the ticket price for the event. Around this time Bruce Welch usually calls in to meet the guests in the audience, along with other performers from the Saturday Show such as Jet Harris, Brian Locking, Alan Jones, and Cliff Hall. Everyone has this great opportunity to meet their heroes and have photos taken and collect autographs, which gives the evening a great atmosphere.
In previous years, we have been able to welcome a large gathering of many International Shadows fans from a wide range of countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Thailand, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Holland, Italy and of course from all areas of the UK. It has also been a very great privilege to meet all of these guests and have an enjoyable time listening to the musical entertainment performed by all the very talented members of the audience. We hope therefore that all of you who have enjoyed the previous Pre-Shadowmania Events will once again wish to join in and we also hope to have the pleasure of welcoming many new visitors to this the 10th Anniversary year of Shadowmania 2008.
- Ticket price £17 each if paying by cheque, if paying by Paypal add £1 to ticket price for using this service.
- Ticket price includes a full buffet consisting of spicy drumsticks, chicken satay, potato wedges, goujons of plaice, duck and hoisin spring rolls, assorted bridge rolls and crudities and dips, celebration anniversary cake and wine.
Due to the popularity of the Friday Social Evening, this year we have anticipated once again a high demand to perform. All applications will be accepted and considered but from experience of the previous years, no certainty or guarantee can be made to be included in the programme, due to the amount of time available. All efforts however will be made to try and include all of you very talented guitarists or vocalists who ask to perform. All the backing musical equipment will be provided and in place, ready for use. There will also be some extra playing time for any guitarists who so desire to perform on the Saturday morning from 9.00am until midday.
| History of Pre-Shadowmania Event |

Kathy and Roy
|
In 1999, following the first Shadowmania in 1998, Roy and Kathy Cresswell, two Shadows fans decided to organise a Pre-Shadowmania Social Evening for all the fans travelling to the Lakeside Complex for the weekend. This intention was to compliment the weekend and to provide an extra evening’s entertainment for everyone to be able to socialise in a relaxed atmosphere and meet friends and share a likewise interest for the love of the Shadows and their music. In addition, the idea was thought to be good, if we provided also the opportunity for any of the avid guitarists who so wished, to provide the musical entertainment themselves for audience present on the Friday evening.

The Peninsula Suite, Lakeside
|
From the first year of the Pre-Shadowmania Social evening taking place, the popularity and success of the event has grown and every year demand for tickets are overwhelming. One of the major attractions of the event for many is the opportunity for any guitarist to perform "live" before an audience, something which they may have never achieved previously, and which has now become easier with various backing tracks and musical equipment which can be purchased to enhance their performance! Over the eight previous years, we have welcomed a large gathering of many international Shadows friends and fans from a wide range of countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Thailand, Japan, Spain, Slovakia, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Holland, Italy and of course from all regions of the UK. It has been a great privilege to meet all guests and have an enjoyable time listening to the musical entertainment performed by many talented members of the audience.
Indeed many of these players who were initially given this opportunity of performing at one of the Pre-Shadowmania Social Evenings, have now gone on to either form their own Shadows tribute band or were inspired to start their own Shadows Club. No one has ever been refused to perform and the restriction we face is that there are not enough hours in the day!

Bruce welcomes fans
|
A synopsis of all the guitarists who have entertained each year is given below, which is truly remarkable, as it appears that we have heard approximately 300 performers during the eight Pre-Shadowmania Social Events, playing two or three numbers each. We thank you all most sincerely for the great entertainment given to everyone, sometimes with even Bruce Welch and other Ex-Shadow members present and enjoying hearing these guitarists for themselves.
It has also been a great pleasure for us to meet worldwide Shadows fans, not to mention Bruce Welch, Jet Harris, Brian Licorice Locking, Alan Jones, Cliff Hall and various artists from the bands who have appeared on the Saturday Shadowmania stage each year, who have also took the time to call in and meet all the guests present during the Friday evening and have made such a great enjoyable atmosphere for all those present.
